Albuquerque commercial photography and videography for law firm Horton Mullins
In October 2025, I had the good fortune to produce commercial photos and video for the law firm Horton Mullins, a New Mexico-based law firm that specializes in, among other areas of law, family law and estates and trusts, with offices in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. The Firm was in the process of rebranding and updating their website, and they reached out to me directly to execute their vision. The full-day shoot would consist of attorney headshots, lifestyle photos showing the firm in action, group photos, and a short video with drone footage to run as a banner on their website.
I am uniquely qualified to help law firms with branding photography and videography because—I’m a lawyer. While I no longer represent clients, I practiced law actively (civil and criminal litigation) for almost 10 years. I know this industry well, and I specialize in working with law firms to present a professional, approachable image to their clients. I also understand deeply the necessity of client confidentiality—all images are edited carefully to avoid the disclosure of any confidential information.
Preproduction is Essential
Commercial photography is all about preparation. Showing up cold to a branding shoot is a recipe for stress and failure. That is why my process always involves detailed discussions with the client to understand their vision and their brand before the shoot, collaboration on a mood board, and extensive location scouting. I put that process to work for this shoot. I met with the Firm in person at both their Albuquerque and Santa Fe locations where I preselected shooting locations based on backgrounds, composition, and lighting. I also prepared a video shot list based on what I observed. Likewise, I scouted locations downtown for architecture images to replace stock photography. We then collaborated on a mood board to solidify the vision, and with all this preproduction in place, the only thing left to do was to execute on the day of the shoot.
Law Firm Headshots
I specialize in environmental attorney headshots. Legal clients, of course, look for attorneys who look professional—but they also look for attorneys who look approachable and relatable. That is where environmental portraiture—photography that highlights both the subject and the area in which they work—really shines. We took that approach for this shoot, opting for a more professional look along with a more casual look for options. I always give my clients options—for each attorney, we shot in two locations, with many different poses, perspectives, and focal lengths so that each attorney could choose from a variety of options the photos that they liked best. I used a two-light setup with a reflector for added fill so that I could control the light precisely, and the Firm loved the final results. Here are a few examples from our shoot:
Website Branding/Lifestyle Photography
In the age of artificial intelligence, the use of stock photography on a professional website is becoming more and more off-putting to clients. It feels cold and disconnected, and worst of all, it feels cheap. Clients want to see you in your element—they don’t want to see stock photography or AI. That’s where professional lifestyle photography comes into play—photography that showcases candid moments of you and your colleagues working in your space, in your city, using your branding. Here are some examples from our shoot that will replace cold stock imagery on the Firm’s website:
Video Puts Your Brand in Motion
Photography is great for attracting clients—but adding professional video takes your brand to the next level and gives potential customers a unique view of the work that you do. Even a short 20-to-30 second silent video looping on your website’s opening banner will make you stand out significantly in crowded market, especially if the video includes drone footage. I am certified and licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration to fly drones commercially, and I am adept at switching seamlessly between photo and video during my client shoots. Here is the short video that I shot for Horton Mullins that will run on a loop on their website:
Conclusion
Overall, my shoot with Horton Mullins was successful, and the Firm was thrilled with the final results. It was such an honor to work with such great people, and I really appreciated the opportunity.
